I may be getting old, maybe not, but it seems as though the winter's keep getting longer and the summers just fly by. I am so tired of the winter, I never seem to get anything accomplished. For example, I had no idea that I hadn't updated this site properly since November. Today the husband is out doing errands and I have control of the computer, so maybe I can get some things caught up!
I spend my nights taking care of a gorgeous little boy. He weighed 1 pound at birth and was 10 inches long (the size of a 16oz drink bottle). He was born 15 weeks early. He turned 2 this month and he is as smart as any 3 year old! Watching this little miracle tends to make one see all of life in a different light. He and his family are certainly an inspiration of hope.
Another reason that I work night shift, aside from the fact that I'm in the store most days as well, I get to watch the sun come up every morning. From Yule onward, the days get longer everyday. A sure sign of the coming warm months!
Planting season is about to begin, and I'm planning to move the vegetable garden out into the side yard and create another herb garden where last year's vegetable garden was. I have some wonderful ideas for home made beauty products. I'm getting futher away from the "FDA approved" chemical products, and I'm ready to try some of the wonderful recipes I found through my research this winter. I get hardly wait until the plants are big enough and I can get started!
This was a bit rambly... sorry...
Don't forget to check our Promotions page for upcoming events!
Have a great day!
Blessings!

| I think that I shall never see | |
| A poem lovely as a tree. | |
| A tree whose hungry mouth is prest | |
| Against the sweet earth's flowing breast; | |
| A tree that looks at God all day, | 5 |
| And lifts her leafy arms to pray; | |
| A tree that may in summer wear | |
| A nest of robins in her hair; | |
| Upon whose bosom snow has lain; | |
| Who intimately lives with rain. | 10 |
| Poems are made by fools like me, | |
| But only God can make a tree |

We've been following a whole foods style diet for quite a number of years now. We avoid processed foods (or at least I do, I can't get him to give up his (chicken) hot dogs though... lol!), eat less meat and more vegetables, and I try to drink a glass of red wine everyday. I also try to buy as much fresh fruits and vegetables in season and feeze them for use throughout the year. Well, recently I've discovered that they've given this "diet" a name. It is now called the Meditteranian Diet. Who would have guessed that a diet could be so easy to follow that you'd do it accidentally! Ok, maybe it's just a common sense diet... I did a bit of research on the Meditteranian diet and found that the only things I still need to work on (which were on the list anyway) is add more fish, and substitute olive oil for butter whenever possible. The health benefits of olive oil are well known and this time of year when all of the fresh foods are available we use a lot of home made viniagrette salad dressing anyway. It might interest you to check it out. I did a search and came up with a number of excellent web sites on the subject and magazines are starting to carry articles about it as well. Oh, and by the way, the last time I went to the doctor for an actual illness was for a sinus infection on Sept 11, 2001. Maybe there could be a link between healthy food choices and illness after all!
Have a great day!

I recently discovered Craig's list. I don't know why I had never checked it before... Of course I'd heard of it.... Any way. Someone mentioned that they check it regularly and post on it, so I checked it out and decided to post an ad for a band for Harvest Faire and an ad for vendors for Harvest Faire. I've actually gotten responses! It's been very exciting! I also posted an ad for a tarot reader for the store, I'm beginning to believe that there isn't anyone in this area who reads tarot... Now, if I ever find a tarot reader, we'll start having that feature in the store on a regular basis...
Ok, so, if you hear of anyone who reads tarot, even if they still need practice, we'd love to have them!
Oh, and BTW, Clyde is actually answering to his new name already!

On Saturday, June 21, we closed the store for the day and attended the Renassaince Faire at Natural Chimney's in Mt Solon. I apologize to anyone who came by the store and didn't find us open. We had a number of reasons to attend!
First: A young man who had visited our group in the past was married during the Faire. He is a wonderful young man, and we wanted to wish him well. His Bride is a very pretty young lady who seems to have a personality to exactly match own. The wedding was precided over by The Rev. Mary Kirby of the Haven ULC. The wedding was tasteful and the service beautiful. We wish these young people many, many years of happiness. I also came to know that the young man has joined the Air Force and will be leaving for Boot Camp within the next couple of weeks. We will keep him in our prayers!
Second: There was a notice posted on one of my egroups regarding vendors for the Faire. We wanted to go to the Faire first and then decide if it was something we wanted to be involved with in the future. Most of the items for sale there didn't seem to fit the theme of the Mystik Dove Shop. Our store is more New Age than Renassaince, so we have decided to give it a bit more thought before we make any decisions.
Third: I'd never been to a Renassaince Faire. Now that I've gone and had the experience, I'm not sure I'd be bothered about going again. I'm not really a "fantasy" girl, I'm more stuck in reality. The Faire was nice and everyone there seemed to have a good time, and it was a wonderful experience. But as previously stated, I'm more of a "New Ager" than a "Renassaince-r".
Most importantly, we were able to wish the newly wed Mr & Mrs Alex Stromberg a happy, long and loving life together!

My name is Deb, my husband is Rick and we were married on June 15, 2007. I'm 48 years old and this is my first marriage. It took me a while to find the perfect man to spend my life with, and I'm certainly glad I waited! I've learned that there are a lot of adjustments to make when you learn to live with someone after being single for nearly half a century, but I've never been happier in my life!
We own The Mystik Dove Shop in McGaheysville, Va. We sell New Age, and Spiritual items as well as Gifts, Fireworks, and Adult Novelties. We are situated in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. We sit at the foot of Massanutten Mountain and Massanutten Resort, with fabulous views of the mountains all around us!
I was raised in South Jersey and moved to Virginia in 1998. The cost of living in NJ was getting out of hand and I was ready for a change of pace. This was the logical place to settle, since I'd been vacationing here for nearly 10 years already. I couldn't think of any where else I'd rather be!
Rick was raised in the Shenandoah Valley, but I'll have to get him to tell you his story sometime!
We have 2 cats, a black cat named Cody, a white stray named Kitty Kitty (I didn't want to get attached, and never really came up with a name for him). Cody and Kitty Kitty were both born here, so I guess technically their Mothers were the strays... We also have one dog, a collie/german shepard mix named Charlie. Charlie is 10 yrs old, Cody is 3 yrs old and Kitty Kitty is 1 yr old. And we have 3 goldfish living in our rain barrel!
We are avid gardeners (mostly me). We appreciate fresh, home grown fruits and vegetables and do our best to keep those on hand before we buy food grown in other countries. We are not vegetarians, but maybe we could be considered part-time vegetarians... Meat is more of a neccessity than a choice. I'm one of those people who can gain weight looking at bread, and I love bread! I need to eat more protein and the easiest way for me to do that is to eat meat. We don't eat a lot of beef though, mostly chicken and fish. We try to avoid "instant" foods, which is fun for me because I love to cook!
We are environmentalists and could probably be considered old hippies, as well! We love the earth and want to do our part to keep it healthy. It needs to support us for a long time yet! We're starting a page with thoughts and ideas about Green Living. I mean "Real" Green Living, as a life style rather than as a fad. I won't go into all of that here because it will be on the Green Living Page, but I'm sure you get the idea!
This site is a new project for me. It has taken me quite a bit of trial-and-error to figure how I wanted the site to look and what I wanted it to be. Please be patient with me as I figure this out! In the mean while, please visit out site often and get to know us.
We would love to have you join our small, but growing family. You can subscribe to this site on the guest book page or you can send me an email and I can send you the invitation to join directly. mystikdoveshop@aol.com We are anxious to meet you!
Blessings!

Last year, the Friday before Father's Day was June 15, and at 5:00 in the afternoon I was getting ready to be married to the most wonderful man in the world! Rick & I were hiding in the house (per instruction of our Priestess) and the greeters were escorting our guests to the patio and organizing food for the reception and there was so much excitment! Our First Anniversery is this Sunday, the 15th. It has been the fastest year on record and I've never been happier in my life. There have been so many wonderful days this year, I can't pick one as my best memory of our first year of marriage. Money has been tight, like it has for everyone in this economy, but we always have what we need. Sometimes it surprises me, and I'm the eternal optimist! If you'd like to see our wedding pictures, they are online at: www.picturetrail.com/mrsdovespics . Now I'll get back to work. Have a Blessed Day!

Greetings!
I am Deb, my husband is Rick. We own and run the Mystik Dove Shop in McGaheysville. The store has been open since 1984 and was one of the primary Beanie Baby dealers in the area. Since the end of the Beanie Baby era we have been working toward reinventing the store as a metaphysical shop and Adult XXX shop. The majority of the items we sell are made locally or within the United States. We still must get some mass produced items as it is now nearly impossible to avoid, but we try to keep these items to a minimum as much as possible. We are, of course, always looking for new and uniques hand made items to feature in the store!
We have recently started working with a company in Appomatox VA, The Queen's Closest. They have been providing us with the most wonderful hand dipped incense I have ever experienced! They have also provided us with some wonderful hand made jewelry pieces and promise of more jewelry in the next few weeks.
We are also working with a company from Florida, Quantum Ocean. They have provided us with beautiful hand made rune necklaces. The runes are done on shells and each one comes with an explaination of the rune used. The energy of these necklaces is absolutely wonderful!
These are just some of the new items we are featuring, please stop in and check out all of the wonderful items we have in stock!
Brightest Blessings to you and yours!
Rick & Deb Dove
